Composed of experienced dentists from various regions of Utah, their collective expertise and insights serve as a compass for strategic decision-making. They understand and protect the interests of our dentists and the overall success of our organizations. Through their leadership and governance, the Board strives to support the dental community by fostering an environment for growth, innovation and collaboration.
With a remarkable cumulative experience of over 300 years in dentistry among the nine active board members, their wealth of knowledge and insights contribute to upholding the highest standards in dental care. This is evident in their decision-making processes. The Board of Directors serves as a strong advocate for dentists’ needs, and their unwavering commitment to the dental community. Their passion drives our organization forward and solidifies our position as a trusted partner for dental professionals across Utah.
Chris R. Simonsen
Chris R. Simonsen, DDS, Bountiful. Pediatric Dentist, Secretary, Board of Directors since April 1979,. currently serving as Chairman of the Board. Graduate of Marquette University School of Dentistry. Obtained Pediatric Dental Training at Milwaukee Children’s Hospital. Member, ADA, UDA, International College of Dentists. 2006 Distinguished Service Award Recipient, UDA. Past District Governor of Rotary International. Elected in 2017 as Member, Bountiful City Council. Member, Investment Committee.
Scott H. Brown
Scott H. Brown, DDS, Cedar City. General Practitioner. Member of Board of Directors since January 1998. Graduated from Creighton University School of Dentistry. Group Practice for 25 years in Cedar City. Former District Peer Review Chair, Southern District. Member ADA, UDA, Pierre Fauchard Academy.
Richard C. Engar
Richard C. Engar, DDS, of Salt Lake City, is a distinguished leader in dentistry. Former CEO and Board member since April 1991, Dr. Engar brings expertise from his 10-year practice in Salt Lake County and tenure as Clinical Faculty at the University of Utah School of Dentistry before retirement. He received the 2017 UDA Distinguished Service Award and the 2015 Lifetime Achievement Award from the International College of Dentists. Dr. Engar is also a Trustee for the Academy of General Dentistry and has received numerous accolades, including the 1997 Utah AGD Dentist of the Year and the 2006 Distinguished Dentist Award from the Pierre Fauchard Academy. He is a member of prestigious dental organizations, including the ADA, UDA, AGD, Pierre Fauchard Academy, Academy of Dentistry International, International College of Dentists, and the American College of Dentists.
David L. Alvord
David L. Alvord, DDS, South Jordan. Current CEO, General Practitioner, sole owner, Oquirrh Mountain Dental. Recently completed a term as the elected mayor of South Jordan 2014-2018. Hygiene Instructor, SLCC Hygiene Program 2009-2011. Graduate of Case School of Dental Medicine, 2004. Board Member, Salt Lake District Dental Society 2010-2012. Member ADA, UDA, Pierre Fauchard Academy, International College of Dentists. First elected to the Board of Directors April 2018.

Ward Creager
Ward Creager DMD, Ogden. General Practitioner. Graduated from Case Western Reserve 2004. Member of ADA, UDA. Member of the Board of Directors since 2022. Project Director with Clinicians Report (Gordon Christensen) since 2017. Mentor with Practical Clinical Coursed since 2018. Member of Academy of General Dentistry.
Scott Theurer
Scott Theurer, DMD, Logan, General Practitioner, Member of Board of Directors since 2021. Graduate of Washington University in St. Louis School of Dentistry. Partner at LoganSmiles. Chair of the Utah Oral Health Coalition 2010, Utah Dental Association Pres. 2012-13, Member ADA Council on Dental Practice 2014-18, UDA Board member and ADA Delegate 2018-2024. Member of the Utah Board of Higher Education 2020-2023. In 2002, founded the ongoing Bear River Head Start oral screening and fluoride varnish program.
